How do you like LinkedIn's new format?

At first I thought I was losing my mind .... On Monday I gave a workshop at the Atlanta conference of ASTD (American Society for Training & Development) and included a thorough segment, real-time using LinkedIn. 

Then on Tuesday, I logged in and the format was different. I like it - just took a minute to get used to it.

What do you think about LinkedIn's new format??

Food & networking

Almost every event I attend has food .... and that's usually a good thing. Unless you can't possibly eat and shake hands. So here are a few tips for anyone serving food.

• Bite-size ... yes, SMALL. Don't make the appetizers too large
• Sauces - NO! I don't want something dripping down my hand
• Bones - Please no! What do I do with the buffalo wing when I'm done?
• Napkins - Yes, have them everywhere
• Breath mints - a good idea to have them around .... :-)

Deceptive calls from Forbes targeting women business owners?

I actually like advertising .... after all, that's why many people watch the Super Bowl even if they don't like football.

But it's especially aggravating when people call and tell you they want to interview you for Forbes, ask you to send photos, want to hear your business story and .... then tell you have to pay for it.

Just tell me upfront, "I want to sell you adversting." Say that at the beginning of the call - not after I call back and schedule what I think is going to be an interview.

I'm not sure why a prestigious publication like Forbes would do this, but please warn the women business owners in your network. Advertising is advertising!

Be wary of any calls you get from EMI Network posing as Forbes.
